Putting it together

We have put a lot of thought into new topics or new angles on favourite themes and our approach to production is different than current fishing shows on telly.

Once we've decided on a fishing topic or theme, we make out a list of shots we need to tell the story, and we'll keep filming until we've got all the shots. Sometimes the weather or fishing might be bad so we don't get the shots we want, so we try again until we have checked off all the shots on the list. Then we can edit together the show we want rather than a show we have to put together. This format is challenging but the end result is more fishing action in the 23 minutes of actual show time. It is amazing the amount of time and effort that goes into delivering 23 minutes of quality fishing television.

Another feature of the show will be the ‘Tackle tips segment' that will screen at the end of each show, this way we don't have to break up the action during the show. Now this won't be a lame segment showing viewers how to tie a knot, (that is difficult to follow in TV at the best of times). We will take a close up look at exactly how we caught the fish on the show with clear concise tips on how viewers can enjoy the same sort of success they have just seen. The more intricate tackle tips will then be published in the current edition of New Zealand Fishing News so viewers can get absolutely all the information.

The whole experience of this project has been a steep learning curve and even a bit scary. We still have a lot to do in the months leading up to the start of our series and while we can't wait for every one to see what we've done, we've really got our balls on the line. The acid test will be the reaction from you guys - guys just like us - the keen fisho's of New Zealand.
