Lures
We've been having some great success recently on the new Lucanus Jigs from Shimano and they are proving to be deadly on the local species. A trip a few weeks ago landed Snapper, Gurnard, Frost Fish and Kingfish so they have a wide appeal. The different weighted heads mean that you've got a workable, deep and shallow water solution, to work alongside your soft-plastic set; so get amongst it and try these very effective lures out. There's a lot of imitations turning up in the market at the moment but from the research we've done the Lucanus is the only option that has replacable assist hooks and lure skirts available. The rest are destined for the bin if a hook gets broken or a skirt damaged. Keep an eye on the site for some awesome underwater action with the new Lucanus Jigs in the coming weeks.
A lot of the success appears to be in the technique, with a slow and steady retireve being the style. The good people at Shimano tell us the Lucanus should be dropped to the bottom, look for hits on the way down, then retrieved slowly with the reel unitl you're about 5-6 meters off the bottom. If no takers, then drop it down and start again. Once you start feeling bites keep the slow wind going until you feel a positive connection and then strike.
We also use Legend Lures, Rapala, Bluefox, Squidgy and Storm lures to great effect; and those lures cover everything from Blue Cod through to Giant Black Marlin.
Insist on quality lures, like the ones we use, from your local tackle store or retailer.
