Stewart Island is New Zealand's third and southern-most island with some fantastic deep sea fishing and big game fishing to be enoyed, catering for all levels of skill and experience.
Generally blue cod is the targeted species. Blue cod and trumpeter can also be caught by those fishing from on the rocky shorelines of the island. Fishing is allowed from the local wharves and catching spotties from these offers endless fun for the children.
Hunting is also hugely popular on the island, offering hunters the only readily accessible herd of Virginian Whitetail deer in the Southern Hemisphere and is therefore a popular destination for deer hunters.
And if diving is your thing, then your catered for too. A warm current from the Australian Great Barrier Reef flows onto Stewart Island. This brings a much more diverse variety of marine creatures than would normally be found in waters of this latitude.
