Arguably the most stunning looking fish in the ocean, Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus Albacares) are perfectly engineered for power and speed, and as such they are a favoutite of anglers all over the world. Power, Speed and dirty tactics sum up the Yellowfin Tuna, running rings around the unweary skipper. The East Coast on New Zealand offers the most reliable Yellow-Fin run and stories of their arrival normally start around January and run through until April. Found almost exclusively in deep water they are normally targeted on trolling lures or skip baits but nothing beats getting alongside a meatball being harrasde by a pack of feeding tuna. In such cases a rigged live or dead bait will normally produce the result.

You will find big Yellow Fin in the pristine tropical waters of New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Tonga, or in the New Zealand summer from January through to April, from Waihau Bay through to the Three Kings.
